    • ASSOEGE is a professional organisation for experts in the field of the energy efficiency  founded in 2012. Its mission is, amongst other things,  to spread the culture and the ‘know-how’ of the efficient use of energy between companies and institutions at a national or international level. • The European Association of Energy Service Companies (eu.ESCO) was founded in 2009 by the European Building Automation and Controls Association (eu.bac) and aims at boosting the energy services market by increasing its transparency and trustworthiness. Uncertainty, lack of knowledge, lack of awareness, and confusion concerning definitions, processes and contract provisions related to Energy Services Companies (ESCOs) and Energy Performance Contracting (EPC) are widely recognised as key barriers to further market development, according to research made by the Institute for Building Efficiency. In this sense, eu.ESCO provides best practices and knowledge sharing to drive standardisation and to accelerate EPC use.

    • To promote Energy Efficiency and the EPC Market in the Baltics and other Eastern Europe countries the Birojs was established in Latvia (2012) in view of the tremendous energy savings opportunities in Soviet Era buildings. The residential inventory is over 50 Million sq. meters and has being steadily deteriorating, becoming insalubrious, and increasingly dangerous. As owners and governments do not have the necessary funding, Energy Efficiency must finance the deep renovations of buildings. The Birojs proposes that Energy Performance Contracting be combined with a Forfaiting facility to allow for substantial scale up. While providing warmer, healthier homes, the large-scale implementation of the EPC+ model would meet the EU’s goals for greater energy security and significantly improve the environment. Learning from successful early struggles in Energy Efficiency projects, the Birojs supports a 15-20 year Energy Performance Contract (EPC+) model. It includes the needed measures for building deep retrofits. The Birojs aims to develop the necessary ecosystem of market players, financial instruments, and communications tools to support the EPC+ as it is the optimal solution to the social, financial and technical challenges faced by the housing sector in Eastern Europe.
