CONCERTO is an initiative from the European Commission within the European
Research Framework Programme (FP6 and FP7) which aims to demonstrate that the
optimisation of the building sector of whole communities is more efficient and cheaper
than optimisation of each building individually. This initiative of the DG Energy has cofunded 58 communities in 22 projects in 23 countries and started in 2005.

The CONCERTO communities integrate innovative energy efficiency measures with a
substantial contribution from decentralised renewable energy sources (RES), smart
grids, renewables based cogeneration, district heating/cooling systems and energy
management systems in larger settlements of buildings. This set of innovative
technologies and measures are optimised locally in order to take into account all
specifications of the local site, climate and cultural differences or local political
aspects.

The CONCERTO initiative is proving that cities and communities can, given the right
planning, be transformed into pioneers in the world of energy efficiency and
sustainability. For more information, please visit  www.concerto.eu or contact: concertopremium@steinbeis-europa.de

Mayors & Cities  is a magazine dedicated to exploring cities, their leaders, residents and businesses. With more and more visitors around the world, Mayors & Cities is read by elected, appointed and career officials in state and local government. Readers and subscribers include governors, mayors, county executives, city and county council members, state legislators, officials within state and local government departments as well as those holding professional government positions such as attorneys and educators. Other members of the magazine's audience include journalists, academics, advocates and activists, as well as representatives of companies that do business with state, city and local government markets

Our primary mission is to make available to the public in general, and especially our readers, a variety of information relating to mayors and cities. As we all know, very few prominent media outlets devote their space consistently to municipalities and those who lead them. So that’s why Mayors & Cities Magazine was created to fill this information gap and the need to draw everyone's attention to what happens within their municipalities. Every day our journalists, reporters, correspondents and other contributors are deployed in the field to bring you first-hand, well-researched and credible information. We also dedicate our energy and resources to the promotion of all initiatives and actions to better know the mayors and cities in the world without discrimination.
